Tara Aguilar - Returning Team Member

  • Biography

  • Tara was born in Valencia, California and was raised there for most of her young life. She attended Arroyo Seco Junior High School and then Valencia High School where she was a member of each school’s dance team and enjoyed many dance competitions. It was at Valencia High School that Tara developed an interest in legal advocacy when she debated passionately against the death penalty in a campus debate.
After High School, Tara moved to sunny Santa Barbara, California to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara. During her four years there, Tara earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics with an Emphasis in Accounting, but most importantly she spent a lot of quality time with her friends at the beach and developed lasting and meaningful relationships.
After college, Tara went on to work for three years in accounting and information systems and customer relations management. The work experience she gained in those three years made her realize the importance of going beyond the classroom to gain an education.
Now at USD School of Law, Tara has been combining studies with extracurricular activities and competitions with criminal legal work experience. When she is not studying, Tara can often be found in the criminal court in downtown San Diego arguing motions for criminal felony defendants or in the Alternate Public Defender’s Office where she writes motions and prepares arguments for cases. Also, Tara enjoys Mock Trial tournaments and is currently a board member of the USD La Raza Society, the USD Criminal Law Society, and the USD Vis Moot Team.
Tara focuses a great deal of her time on the USD Vis Moot Team as well. She enjoys working with her teammates in preparation for the Vis Moot Competition in Vienna, and she looks forward to competing at the Fordham Law School Vis Practice Moot Competition this February.
